Apparently the Pope has passed on his blessing for this new iPhone app that allows you to keep track of your sins and gives you guidance as to what you should do next (this week you only committed a few sins that can easily be forgiven in worship; you sinned quite a bit, better head to confession; etc.).
I have mixed feelings on the app (which sells for $1.99). I think it is great for people to be aware of the decisions they are making and to understand exactly how sinful we can be. But on the other side of that, I fear it would turn some into people that become consumed by their shortcomings and begin to lose their mind in one way or another.
I'm pretty indifferent, I don't have an iPhone or iPod so probably won't be buying it. If I did have one, I probably still would go without a purchase as I don't like paying for applications.
But it did get me thinking about grace. We all know how amazing it is, we sing about it all the time. But do we really think about how great this grace that we receive is? We are not bound and pinned down by our sins, but we are able to be forgiven and to let our past wrongdoings not be constantly haunting us. We are freed to live lives of service and praise to God.
Here is the news story mentioned above.
