Give us the joy of sharing our faith...

We come to the final week of our series based on banners I saw in St. Mark's.

Give us the joy of sharing our faith. Working with confirmation youth I know that this isn't always a joy. Some times it is scary as can be. Why is it so scary to share our faith? I was just at a conference on studying the Bible and heard plenty of stories about how reading the Bible and sharing faith stories has taken even the toughest of people and turned them in to scaredy cats. (I have never seen that spelled out, it looks so weird.)

Despite our fears God calls us to share our faith, "to make disciples of all nations." As much as we may not like it, it is what we are called to do. So how do we make it less daunting? By practicing. Let's start tonight.

At your dinner table ask the following questions:
What is your favorite story from the Bible?
Why do you like that story?
Who is someone at church that you admire?
Why do you admire them?

4 simple questions that will get you talking about the Bible and your faith. And the best part about this exercise is there is no right or wrong answer. When I was younger 2 Kings 2:23-25 was my favorite passage from the Bible. Why? Bears killed people. It wasn't a holy reason, but it did have me reading the Bible to find more stories like it and it had me memorize Bible verses.

Practice sharing your story with your family and they with you, it will make a world of difference and you will soon find the joy in sharing your faith!
