In the last few months there have been several devastating natural disasters. From the earthquake and tsunami in Japan to the tornadoes in South and Midwest, there are all kinds of people that need help right now. Below are some reputable organizations that you can contact for ways to help.
Red Cross is accepting a variety of donations especially money and blood. Visit their website for more information. You can also send a text message with the text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross.
Lutheran Disaster Response is an organization that brings together the generosity of Lutherans and the helping hand of disaster relief. You can make donations and also get on a mailing list to know how you can help each time there is a disaster.
Catholic Charities USA is like LDR but it is Catholic based. Fortunately, we know that the Catholics and Lutherans work quite well together.
It is important to research "charitable" organizations before giving. Often during great tragedies people will create scams that look like they are helping when, in fact, they are pocketing money and not providing relief. The 3 organizations above are all great, reputable, and have been around for a significant amount of time. All three were the first ones to Louisiana following Katrina and the last to leave.
